Is there anyone using one of the Benro TMA 48 tripods that could tell me the diameter of the head base please? Look to see if Manfrotto MHXPRO-3WG Geared Head would fit and not overhang. Thx
I believe these are the ones you are questioning in the first image below. Tripods with center columns in this range will be about 2.25-2.5 inches from what I have seen. Larger ball-heads will be closer to 2.75inches, I would also not worry about a small overhang, as you can see my large G3 Ball head which supports up to 40lbs has a slight overhang on my Induro but that is my primary combo, in fact my old bogen 3047 pan/tilt head almost has no overhang and is what I use on my medium format rigs.
Johnsey, thanks for the info. Can I just clarify that the first small image is a MHXPRO-3WG on a Benro tripod, how much over larger is the base of the MHXPRO-3WG compared to the Benro ?
The head is published online as a base of 2.36inches. Benro does not appear to list the diameter of their columns from what I saw. The image shows the head's red ring is from what i can tell close to 1/4 inch smaller than the base, but that is a ballpark guess. I don't have the Benro tripod, I found the image on a site reviewing your tripod in question to confirm for you the head is smaller than the column. Is there a reason your so concerned about the diameter matching up? This TMA48CXL is a large heavy tripod which supports 5 times the weight of that pan head you have which is made for up to 8.8lbs. This tripod can take larger gimbal heads for long lenses. I would be more concerned with the weight, height, and how compact it is when folded.
