Thanks for your interest Gary. The camera was a Canon 70d, with a 300 f2.8L non IS (oldie) lens coupled to a Canon 1.4 TC and all that mounted on a Swarovski tripod with a Manfrotto 468 ball head. The setting I used were ISO 320 f11 @ 1/1000th sec. I like to shoot the moon under exposed so the highlights does not get blown out.

PP every time I try to take a photo of the moon, it either pours with rain or it get covered with cloud.
The last time I took a clear photo, I discovered I had a small scratch on the camera's sensor when I blew the photo up.
looking at your photo, has stimulated my want to try again, so I am hoping for a clear night, Thursday

Thanks for the information. I do like seeing images of the night sky. I would like to take more night sky images, but I live in the middle of a city which makes for great light pollution. Not that I am any good at it.

Moreno Valley, California is located at the edge of the Mojave Desert so the primary climatic influence is from the desert. Meaning hot, dry weather. The advantage from a photo point of view is low haze, low air-borne particulates and calm clear night skies. Since I live in the city the light pollution washes out the stars but the moon looks clear and shines brightly. Good luck to you Craig.

Here in Tasmania we had a overcast sky and it rained, I will have to try again next full moon.
