I have a basic and now old camera body an EOS350 D I want to replace the body but want to keep my 75mm -300 mm telephoto lens it is a ultrasonic zoom lens and is marked as a 3 USM Could some one point me towards a body that will take this lens Thanks Dave
Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. Can you please give us an idea of what you like and plan to photograph with your new camera once you get it. Also, what sort of money are you looking at spending? Are you looking at the same sort of camera, or are you looking at something a little more advanced? Gary
Dave, like Gary, I think along the same lines so my first question is why. does the camera function correctly, if so what is the reason for it's replacement. Is there a need for more features such as video, etc. If the camera is starting to have issues, then are you after a cheap camera such as secondhand or a new one. I would suggest that if the camera is working fine, a new camera is nice but a decent lens is the way to go for improved images. plus also for a new lens instead of a camera is the camera will quickly devalue and the lens will hold it's value for a longer time. I have a 350D as a spare for my photography class and they get excellent results. The lenses from the 350D will also fit modern Canon EOS mount cameras
If you are looking to upgrade the body, that lens is an EF mount, so it will work with any Canon DSLR. Also via an adapter, it can work with any of the Canon mirrorless range. Thanks for replying, There is a fault with what I think is the camera body, I like take action photos ,airshow,racecars etc. Over the past few years I would pan onto my shot and the camera would lock . I have tried different memory cards in the camera and different batteries It bugged me so much I was reluctant to venture out with the purpose of using the camera. I would look for a new body rather than second and would set my budget at £500 Thanks Dave
Are you big into post editing? i ask that as i have the M50, i shoot a lot of action wildlife with it in conjunction with a sigma 100-400mm as its an entry level camera it doesn't have the best buffer for multiple fast bursts of raw files but it does do the largest size jpeg on burst pretty good so that might play into the motorsport and aircraft shooting. also if you just want a body and you might need an adapter you could get those for the budget. the M50 is my first camera so i don't really have a great amount of knowledge to share going back and editing this i not sure if you are doing stills or video? i just do stills, atm so the above might be irrelevant, with vid in mind the battery size might also be a negative for the M50, though i never use up more than two on stills in 4 hours
Hi Dave, I can completely understand the upgrade even with reliability not being an issue, that rebel probably feels a bit long in the tooth, ISO performance has come a long way since then as well. Given what you what you plan to shoot sounds like you could also use some frames per second on burst as well. I would encourage you to jump up from the rebel line, you definitely got plenty of ROI on that old rebel and can certainly reason jumping up to the middle level cameras for better specs and more rugged build after 16 years of use. Given the action shooting my initial suggestion would have been a 7d Mk2 which shoots 10fs, but that is a out of the budget range. The 70d&80d are still fairly new if your willing to shop the used market and looks like they go between £400-600 on ebay. I would shop your local stores and craigslist options you probably could grab a better deal there. I think you can at least consider a used body just make sure its not too old and looks like it has been well cared for. Pretty well what models I was going to suggest. But I was going to add used as well. I know Dave has said not used, but when I read his reply with airshows and motor sports, I was thinking of an aps-c camera, and the 7d sprung to mind. I have have one of these which I brought second hand. And it built like a tank. Gary
