July Monthly Challenge - Night

I'll make a start and get in early, for once. I am not 100% if this makes the rules as this image was taken on the last full moon, four weeks ago. The image was on the memory card and still in my camera, so not downloaded to my PC.

I will submit other images for this challenge.

So, number one from me this month.

Great star bursts on the street lights, very nice

 

Thanks @Caladina - Perhaps I was lucky to get those starbursts, I took many pics using various settings that night and this was the better one. This is the EXIF data:

Sundar my friend from afar - nice to see you hear as well. I would like to do more here (and at the other place) but I get really busy doing graphics work and this is one of those times. I've just completed a series of posters for a great singer in the UK so that should free up twenty minutes per day

 

You have a free twenty minutes per day now............... Luxury.

A huge lightning display over Perth City.

 

Very nice one. Recall you saying in the past that western Australian coast is famous for this.

 

There are a few things I miss about living in Australia, and the lightning is one of them. Really nice image. Were you walking around holding up your metal umbrella?

fantastic lightening pics, i have a huge delema with rain pictures, i love the rain so much i never take my camera out because i just want to be out in it, last huge down pour we had here i just threw on a dress cardi and heels and went out for a long walk, completely drenched would have gotten some nice water and rain dramatic pics.
i have just discovered in the last week the outex waterproof cover which looks like a perfect solution.
might need to put that on my birthday wish list (august) .

last time i took lightning pictures was back in the 80's??? i had a cheap kodak disc camera that i made a hack for to keep the shutter open, i drilled a hole through the case where the mech was so i could press the shutter down and stick a pencil into the hole for a minute and got great pics for age and equipment

 

I think you have captured the intensity of the storm quite well, Isac.

 

Firstly, Caladina, thanks for your reply and comments - it's appreciated. Where's "HERE"? I'm a bit old for dancing in the rain but I know where you're coming from. Rain is no good for cameras so the outex would be a good solution (expensive for a bit of plastic AU$450.If I threw on a dress, cardi and heels I'm not sure I would fit the landscape! I remember the disc camera in the 80's, very thin If I recall and didn't have room for a lot of images. I hope you get your birthday wish

 

You're right Craig, this storm went on for a few hours - lots of time to get good pics. Easy to get good quality with simple settings. I used a 17-50mm Tamron on my 7D. Bulb mode (this one was about 20+ seconds), focus to infinity, f:11, ISO 100.

 

Isac, I have a son in Queensland who is into lightning photography.
He is out in all sorts of weather till he got water in his camera via the lens but some of his shots are impressive.
