I'm sorry but the shot is only average at best. Are you going to try the settings I spoke about earlier? Shutter Priority / Shutter Speed 1/2000th sec. / Auto ISO / AI Servo mode. When presenting your photos, try to get the framing right in post. With this one, removing the "cut off" ponies would make a lot better image. Always try to visualise how it would look framed in a hotel lobby.
That looks nice The shot was taken from the drivers seat looking through the pass. window so not a lot of space without getting window frame in shot not all situations are perfect
100% agree Kevin, perfect conditions are almost never dished up on a plate, especially for wildlife shots. Do you have to be in your vehicle when photographing these magnificent animal? If I have offended you or @Paul F, I do apologise, it was not my intention. If my CC is not welcome, it is not a problem for me to stop offering ideas and commenting. Cheers.
Not offended always ready to learn but as the situation was not known reserve judgment I had packed up then these came past so shoot and hope These ponies are very nervous so I try not to spook them rather have a poor pic than no pic Thanks. Kevin
It's all good Kevin, I won't be commenting here any more. I was only offering ways to help you get better photo results for you based on my own experience. I think you have a unique photographic subject to be able to hone your skills to get some amazing images. I can only comment on what I see in the photos you present. Cheers and good luck.
sorry you will not be commenting again like i said always willing to learn but all situations differ things [weather etc,.] change fast, animals can move fast sometimes no time to set camera just shoot and hope some good some bad some great [rarely] Thanks for the tips Kevin
This is only a suggestion as I won't be critiquing you images, try setting the Custom Settings (C1 and C2) to set up your camera to quickly pick a camera setting and as soon as you see the ponies racing past, just change to C1 or C2 and you're ready to shoot.
Thanks again aint used the C1/2 much yet I am hoping weather permitting to be out today I will give it a go. Kevin
Good luck with it Kevin. I use it all the time. I set the C1 for Birds in Flight which would be great for your ponies on the run: Tv mode / 1/2000th sec / Auto ISO / AI-Servo (7 fps) / BACK BUTTON FOCUS The 80D has some pretty impressive AI Servo specs, so give it a try.
thanks again weather looking o.k so i will be giving those settings a go. I have been on a few forums I like it here good welcome, good tips no snobbery. Kevin
You're welcome Kevin and great that you are going to try the different settings. I'm sure you will get some great results. Sorry for saying your image was average, but that's the way I saw it and it was a comment about the photo only, not a comment about the photographer. Good luck out in the good weather!
Thanks no problems. Tried a few yesterday I think they are o.k Used C1/2 first time learned something. Kevin
Wow, what a great shot this could have been. Don't get to see these magnificent animals galloping in my neighborhood. This had the potential to be on the wall framed up.
