The sun is about to come out of the hills in the back with the river in front. I lifted the shadows a bit. Wasn't sure if I should keep it or toss it. The scene looked great to my eyes though. Please let me know what you think.

i like the comp, maybe i'd crop out the right hand side where the top right sky is murkier.
i'm thinking the hills might look better in full silhouette so there are no distracting grey areas?
if i wanted to picky i'd say the tree and mountain out line are a tad soft though that could be due to resizing for media.

when i tried to get a sunset picture for the monthly comp i only had this type of shot available, the clouds were not around, initially i was disappointed but i do like the mostly clear golden glow sky shots, they work very well with the contrast between black and gold.
i like it as an image, though i'd probably crop out the water, thats more of a personal choice, when i scroll the picture down the page and it cuts the sea out i like how the dark silhouette ends at the frame.

I kept the shadows untouched, cropped the image to clip the sky on the right and kept a tiny foreground to give a hint of river down there.

getting there, the lower crop i had in mind was to have the same distance in height for the dark hills in the bottom left as the sky in the top right so its a ying yang balance

i see it making a nice wall hanger
with the edit i did the image would benifit from more sky room at the top, either that or reduce the bottom area further still to match the sky to tree ration in the top left.
i think im getting to involved in what i'd do with the image over reviewing your image as it stood so i'll leave it there.

You beat me to it. I was about to post an image close to the edit you have made. Thanks for showing a different compositional perspective.

Photography is art therefore its always going to have differing opinions even on the same image by the same person a few days / months later they may change their mind

one more image. I see some kind of ying yang going on here. River can be a distraction but kept it because I liked the reflections on it. I am not too pleased with this set but, beggars can't be choosers.

Composition-ally I would try including a fair bit more water. This feels quite symmetrical and I think it would balance better minimizing how much of the image is dark black shadow.

Yeah that helps.. With a large dark shadow like that you want to aim to make the image about the rest of the scene and work on composition where expanding on what is most interesting. Seeing this image makes me want to find a spot further back where i can compose the trees at the top and narrow the and shadow to the top maybe ~1/3 of the photo and make it about the refection. All this is speculation of course having not been at the location to try out different spots and compositions :D

That is pretty helpful Johnsey. All good stuff to keep in mind on my next trip anywhere.

Last one johnsey. I took some artistic license here. Made a panorama of three images and squished the hills in the back.

oh, don't like the amount of frame to picture, the frame is stealing the show there.
as the picture is of a flowing landscape i would have it in a thinner frame or no frame (mounted as a canvas) so that you have the feeling of it continuing out past the image itself.
big frames like that for me work with items that are contained like a portrait or framed subject
