Just curious really ....Which printer was this, I would have thought such a large lawsuit would have had more press? Its funny how different experience can be, I used to buy epson photo printers all through the 2000's but had so many issues with clogging nozzles despite the models i had (which was a few over a decade) that I decided to give canon a shot. I have had my Pro-100 and my MG7120 both for about 7 years and have not had one issue. That said I wouldn't compare their printer quality to camera quality, printers is just a way of them gaining extra market share
I must admit I find it funny how much people are concerned with shutter count, if the camera has 200k shots on it it will also likely show signs of its age.
Good to see your comments @johnsey This is where the community forum topic is located: HERE. You'll see I am not the only one with Canon issues. They are all on the scrap heap now but I had a Canon Pro9500-II and a Canon Pixma MX885. I also had a Canon Lasershot LBP-1120 (which was brilliant) and was told by Canon to throw away, because they would not supply printer drivers for any OS later than Window XP! The error was U052. If you browse "canon u052 error" it's endless. A friend had the same printer (MX885) - from my recommendation - and he had the same fault. It was suggested that Canon made this happen just after warranty expired. I am happy with my camera gear but not overly impressed with the company's attitude towards the people who keep them afloat - us consumers. I only comment on what I have personally experienced which affects me. Others may have different or satisfactory outcomes from Canon and/or other companies. Cheers.
Personally, I do care about the shutter count just as I do about the mileage on my car. Others aren't bothered about it, as you are indicating and that's OK. My 2 cameras 7D (2009) and 7Dii (2014) still look brand new because I take excellent care of them. This may be of interest HERE. If it's not such a big deal, I have no idea why Canon do their utmost to conceal it? Others have it readily available, either in the camera menu system or in the image EXIF data. That sort of thing is confusing to me and I haven't had a convincing answer (to date) as to why Canon choose this option. I think people's interest is aroused because Canon do chose to hide it and others don't. It's a fact that there's a strong second hand market for photography equipment and if I had the choice between a camera with 30,000 actuations and one with 120,000 actuations for the same price, I know which one I'd choose. BUT that's just me and my own personal choice, others may choose differently. Thanks for your comment - appreciated. Cheers.
camerashuttercount does not work for the 80D. So far, I haven't found anything that will via windows or online. The only thing I haven't tried is Dire Studio's Shutter Count on the Apple store as I don't own anything Apple. It claims it can.
I have always been able to get the shutter count using Astro Photography Tool HERE. It's a trial version that never expires. Just download and install. Run APT.EXE and do the following. 1. Click No when asked to set coordinates. 2. In Check Lists, click Cancel. 3. Connect your camera with the USB cable to your PC and power ON your camera. It will detect the camera and show it in the Logged list bottom left. 4. Click the CONNECT button top right. 5. Once connected, it will show the shutter count in the Logged list bottom left.
Thanks for the comprehensive reply. It does see the camera. Unfortunately it does not show shutter count. Canon made the 80D difficult to access that type of data as I have heard from other users trying to crack the code.
That's a bit odd because APT shows the 80D on its list of compatible cameras. Sorry it did not work for you. Did your camera show up as "plugged" in the log? What happened when you hit "Connect"?

Oh well, I don't have any other suggestions, sorry. It has always bugged me why Canon don't want shutter counts available and others like Nikon don't have an issue with it. I don't know anyone from Canon to ask.
