my least shot styles are portrait and landscape, lens wise i pretty much like picking up a lens i havent used in a while so it would be down to style.

 

well as this is about lenses i have just picked up the sigma efm 56mm ƒ1.4 so technically it is my least used lens and portraits is something i don't do so.........

Sigma 56mm ƒ1.4, ss 1/800, iso 6400.

With the camera in monochrome and the iso deliberately set at 6400 to introduce some grain and softening, used the shutter speed to adjust the tone, shot in 1:1 format

 

Nice image and hot looking girlfriend, the last time I tried a shot like that the young lady ( this one was a little under 55) threatened to stick my camera where the sun does not shine.
I smoothed the troubled waters by putting the image in photoshop and de-wrinkling the image and removing the gray in her hair .
This relationship did not last she had a laziness problem, ME.

 

This shot was taken on the road to Sandford in Southern Tasmania. I have not been here since the late 90's and the lens was a Sun Hi-Tele zoom 85- 210mm.
This was a M42 mount lens designed as a movie camera lens.

 

This is my Sun Hi-Tele zoom lens, I purchased the lens part at a Sunday Market, it was missing the pistol grip, which I had seen earlier. It was a unusual lens with a M42 mount. I took it back to my car and had a better look at it. After a couple of moments it dawned on me that the pistol grip had a similar mounting point to the lens. I went strait back to the stall holder and purchased the grip.
The trigger mechanism activates the aperture, open and closing .

interesting lens mounts, i've seen some of like it on vintage lens channels, some also that are based on sniper rifles
Mathieu Stern on youtube has alot of interesting and weird vintage lenses, well worth a look if you into your vintage lenses.

just thought of another lens i have that i dont use for photography, my jupiter 135, i bought it as much for its looks as i did for its use.

 

I do not know much about the jupiter brand but I do like the 135mm length, my 135 is a little stiff and sticky to use and the plasticized rubber on the barrel is replaced with yellow electrical tape but the images are lovely and I like the closeup images compared to 50mm and 85 mm

 

135mm on a vintage lens i prefer to use with a tripod, esp with the 1.6 crop of my camera, i like the 135 takumar alot more than the 135 jupiter to use 9i initiall got the jupiters to shine light through as a light controller)

the pentacon 100mm comes out to around 160 on crop and i HH that fine

do you use full frame or a crop craig?

i like the 50mm-58mm range on the M42's because i can get close to flowers and control the background highlights more

 

A young lady after my own heart, I think the M42 mount lenses are pretty neat.
My 135 example is a Tasman lens (I liked the name of the lens, I live in Tasmania and it called a Tasman lens, Cool).
I don't know much about it prior to arriving in at Vinnies, where I volunteer. It had been dismantled and the check ball controlling the aperture is missing, the aperture blades had been cleaned. it still works nicely though. I have another 135 called a Royale but the blades a sticky, a pretty looking lens, I have not had the time to do a full strip down and clean. The two main cameras I use are a 1D mark 3 (full frame) and a 60D (crop sensor). Some of my Ashi lens have yellowed due to the radiated elements again I have not got around to clearing the yellowing yet. As well as tripod use, I bump up the ISO and increase the shutter speed for hand held.
I was lazy and just snapped of a image, which is a bit shaky but you can see the name of the lens clearly and it's pre-loved condition.
It also has a sexy metal screw in lens cap,

I like the idea of this month's topic. I am going to use some of my least used M42 manual lenses on my Canon DSLRs.
The first one is a Sankyo Kohki Komura 105mm f/2.5 Preset. Made sometime between 1962 and 1980 when Sankyo Kohki became insolvent. It is being used on my EOS-1Ds full frame at its nominated focal length.
We are currently in a stay-at-home lockdown but I am fortunately in a retirement village and we are able to be out and about in the village grounds where we have a nice lake with birdlife.

I tend to forget about the virus down here in Tassy, mainly due to the huge moat around the state, so it is hard for people to sneak across the border. Stay safe,mate.

 

Thank you, Craig. We are coping OK. The gates are closed and any visitors have to check in so no sneaking in here either. We will get through it. My therapy is taking photos...more to come.

 

This time it is another M42 lens on another camera. The lens is a Hanimar (Hanimex) 135mm f2.8. This was my first ever telephoto lens purchased way back in 1976 when everyone had a 50mm or 55mm standard lens plus a 35mm and a 135mm. I was way too poor then to buy a genuine Takumar 135mm lens but I do have one now. However, the Hanimar still performs well. It is on the 20D so with the 1.6 crop factor is the equivalent of a 216mm lens.

Here are our two resident swans adding to their already huge nest. We are expecting cygnets in the near future.


Across the lake and the extra reach of this lens is obvious.
