Having arrived early at Vinnies where I volunteer, it would have been another 20 minutes before it opened so I grabbed my camera and took a image of Mt.Wellington's pinnacle( 1271M high), where a clear view of the cliff face called the Organ Pipes can be seen. The pinicle of M. Wellington .jpg
Located between the base of Mt.Wellington and the River Derwent is Hobart ( the capital city of Tasmania) and the various outer suburbs, this image was taken at Moonah a suburb to the north of Hobart.

It looks like a good place to go for some sunrise and sunset images Craig.

The view is fantastic, We recently had some idiots from the mainland and some greedy sods from here in Tasmania wanting to build a cable car from the base of the mountain to the pinnacle and a dirty great building up there for a exit and entry point, restaurant and gift shop , This would have polluted the nature reserve with tourists, clogged up the city traffic, have a disastrous effect on a hospitable system at breaking point. The biggest issue was every 20 years there is a huge bush fire covers the mountain, this is a natural event. This is the 4th time this contraption has been proposed and each time it is rejected. The building of this would have meant the destruction on a large part of the pinnacle area.Common sense has won through again, thankfully.

Looks a fantastic site Craig. I hope it stays in its natural state for all to enjoy. With your image I thought it looked a bit flat, so I had a play to make it pop a bit. There's some beautiful colours in the face of the mountain. I hope it's OK.

The image I put up is how it looked on the day,if you look at the sky you will see the fading sunrise as it was still a bit early in the morning, so the sun was still a bit low in the sky. Your editing show a bit more oomph nice one Isac, your editing has brightened a image with the need of it's mid tones being improved. If you have a look at my past images taken from the same spot when it has snow on the peak it look fantastic , one of the few places in Australia that has this as a backdrop like this behind it's capital city.

Thanks Craig. It was just me to see if I could get some more out of the image. I saw your Dusting of Snow shot and you are spoilt to have that as a backdrop. Cheers, Greg.

Thanks, Greg. This is an image of the cliff face that overlooks the suburb of Claremont where I live, it does have a dark history as a group of boys in the late sixties died in the caves contained with in the cliff face when a cave in sealed them in, the entrances to the caves were blown up to stop other from going in, the image was taken late last year on one of my photo class outings at Poimena Reserve at Austins Ferry. The next suburb, north of Claremont.

Sad about the boys Craig. Lovely pic - well framed with the foreground trees. The mountain could do with some contrast. Have you got Photoshop or similar?

I have,Photoshop, Gimp and Faststone image viewer, I left the image as is as this is the true colours and shade of the mountain as you view it.
If you look at the foreground trees, they are are not a alpine species of tree, now click on the image to magnify and look at the mid ground below the houses and you will see how dull the foliage is and as you get farther and high up the mountain areas it becomes more dull, The colour can improve when you have direct sunlight on it but not a lot.

Sure, that's OK. It might be just me but the camera gets it different to our eyes. Most images I take are different to what my mind has interpreted, being mainly:
    1. Angle of View
    2. Resolution & Detail
    3. Sensitivity & Dynamic Range

The camera's dynamic range is only around 20%-25% of what our eyes can see. That's why I use Photoshop to bridge the gap so to speak. That's only my take on it, and I'm sure others views will differe - and that's a good thing.
I also am a big fan of Faststone for quickly viewing and culling images before they are catalogued and backed up. I love that I can go from Faststone to Photoshop with one key press. Gimp, not a fan at all but for a freebie is OK. I have it installed to help others as well as a few others.

I have only just began using Faststone as I am introducing it to my photo class this year as a alternative to photodshop. The class are senior students and the more simple to use programs are easier for them. I have recently got them to use ICE for panoramas. I agree with you on the limitation of what the camera dynamic range limitations. I do not think the dynamic range on this image as is was far off in what I had seen on the day. Still there is always room to improve but I was lazy and left it as is.

Greg, I just had a look at Sundar's just black and white images and got all inspired so here is my black and white of the cliff face overlooking my home. When I edit my images I have one drawback, I use an old TV for a Computer screen, if you can improve on my Black and White please have a go.

I think you've done a good job with this one Craig, so any edits I'd try would only be subjective. If anything, I would only brighten the rocks in the centre of the mountain and a bit of burning in the mountain trees and foliage.

I'm surprised you use a TV for editing and viewing. The pixel density is a lot lower on a TV than a computer monitor. Is there any particular reason for using the TV instead of a monitor?

Yes, one reason, poverty, I can not afford a large computer screen, the TV does every thing I need, I have a smaller 20 inch Computer screen for when I need to do accurate editing and demos and teaching in my Photo Class, The50 inch TV come from vinnies where I vol, unteer and is OK for Gaming and general editing.

Thats a great thing you do. I do the same, everything "No Charge" I have decades of experience in this little brain and love to share its contents with whoever needs or wants it. All the stuff for Photoshop on my website is all freebie stuff - actions, mockups, tutorials etc. Cheers, Greg
