Looks like they have had these marked down under my nose at least, for almost a year. B&H still taking orders but on back order, anyone else thinking of jumping in and grabbing one at the $1500 price point it seems like a steal. Funny thing is I am surprised they still can get stock, I thought they were discontinued.

Yep they started the fire sale about a year ago and it killed the trade in value of mine.
I had thought of just keeping it but I knew I wouldn't use it again.

Yeah I never planned on getting one but I'm thinking at 1500 it would pair great with my MK4. In all honesty I was shopping around debating picking up one of the wide angle tilt shifts from canon and saw the deal.

I bought mine back in the summer of 17 and when I was researching it everyone said it was just a studio camera. I used it for wildlife and it did just fine, it had limitations with fps and wasn’t the best in low light but paired with a 1DX2 it was a great wildlife combo.

It’s a great deal at the price they are going for now, I wouldn’t wait to long if you’re really thinking of buying one because they probably won’t be available for much longer.

I did, it is sitting ordered but still on back order at B&H. I think I may use it even a bit more than my Mark4, they seem that they will pair together well, excelling where the other does not be it: speed/power, features, ISO performance, resolution etc...

The 5DsR showed up today, I'll have to find some time to put it through some reps now. Only about a month to fulfill the back order, not too bad. All this because I was looking at a few lenses and saw the new price point.

A month isn't too bad of a wait. The amount of detail you will be able to see when pixel peeping with it can be amazing. When I got mine in 2017 I upgraded from a 13" laptop to a 27" 5k iMac a month later and was blown away by the resolution upgrade and the details in animals eyes I could see.

It can get expensive when you are just looking at lenses. I looked on Canons site last month for something and saw the RF 100 2.8 macro was in stock, I ordered that right away. I wasn't planning on buying it until after the new year but the way things have been with trying to find RF glass I figured I shouldn't take the chance of waiting and it being out of stock.

Yeah I don't blame you, even if its not in stock you may as well get in line ordering it on back-order if you want something. Who knows when stock will return to normal.. With that logic I went ahead and back-ordered the lens I was debating.

i'd be very interested in the images and res from this camera, its one i had noted when i was looking at the older high mp cameras.

also be interested in knowing if there are any lists for lenses that can resolve for this lens.
i don't have any Canon EF glass but i do have a few Sigma art primes

Well I grabbed a JPG right out of camera this morning. The lens is my rokinon fish-eye which is MF by the way, but you can get an idea what this resolution can look like. https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjohnsonphoto/51615312599/sizes/l/
not a ideal pixel peeping example with that lens or the camera jpg. Looks like I need to decide if I am upgrading to CC for Lightroom or going to manage my workflow by converting to DNG so that I can actually read the Raw file.

One more test photo JPG straight from camera as i have toyed with it a bit while working today. Grabbed the 17-40, shot at 1000 ISO. 1/60 sec f9 for a bit of DoF. https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjohnsonphoto/51615939204/sizes/l/

Initial reaction is that my 17-40 held up well at 50mp :) at 100% upload_2021-10-21_14-41-6.png

Johnsey, hows it going with the 5dsr, i was wondering what lenses you are using with it in regards to the resolution demands by the camera on the lens.
as of yet i don't have any high res canon ef lenses, my highest or best ef lenses are from Sigma art and Laowa Macro

I am sure if you asked Johnsey nicely, he will send it to you for a test run.

    LOL :)

The camera has been great, I am pretty happy with the purchase at that price point it feels like a great deal. I was a bit worried about some of my glass holding up, and honesty I haven't went through all my lenses yet as I have been pretty busy with work, the holidays and well.. its been mostly below 0 Fahrenheit which is a bit cold to go out shooting. I have got some reps in on my old trusty 17-40 and my new 24mm TS, and even my budget rokinon 14mm fisheye (posted link above). If the rokinon held up well I think all EF glass should be fairly safe, but i need to test out my portrait primes here sooner or later and see how they do. :)
