I recently purchased this body which came with its own; SD 256MB PNY Media Card. The camera works just fine with this card, however when I insert more modern higher capacity cards, I receive these error messages: Card is Locked, and Memory Card Error. When I inserted the newer cards, I made certain that they were not in the locked position. I do not know what Memory Card Error means.

Many thanks for your assistance. :)

You need to check how much storage is compatible with that device.

It's like still in the market if we talk about mobile phones then there are certain handsets which gives an option of expandable storage to a certainty. Let's say, mobile comes with 64 GB of internal memory and has got an option to expand the storage using an external SD card till 128 GB. So now if you insert a 256 GB of SD memory card by knowing that the device is only compatible up to 128 GB then it won't run and store any media into that mobile phone and will show an error in the memory card be it that SD card is working fine in other devices which are compatible to run it.

Similarly, in the same way, you need to get to know how much of the storage using an SD card will make the device run with ease.

Thanks very much. As with Johnsey's reply, very helpful. Surprisingly, these older cards are not inexpensive, even on Amazon. Thanks again, Tonytee. :))

Well, from what I have seen on Amazon, the prices range from $13.99 used to approximately $31.99 new. I do not purchase used Media Cards as I have read and heard that not only do they not function properly, but have been known to destroy the bodies. Thanks again Johnsey. Tonytee :))

Canon Powershot is an old camera and most of the new SD cards are not compatible with the old cameras. Newer models of SD cards will not work and store any media on that camera and will display a memory card error if the SD card is working properly on other compatible devices to run it.
