    Hello!
I shot a wedding this past weekend. I was using my Canon 6d Markii. Initially, all was fine.
Halfway through, the shutter wouldn't release and the screen busy. I thought it was because I had just taken a lot of continuous shots. Then then camera showed an error. I don't remember which code, bc I was in a hurry but it said to turn off camera and back on.
So I did, and it shot fine. I kept shooting. The shutter would release with no problems. I would see the quick preview on the screen.
Things were moving fast now, so I didn't have time to review the photos.
When I did go to review, about 500 photos later, I see 4 in a row of "cannot display image" files and then then next picture is the last one I took before turning the camera off before.
At this point I change memory cards and finish out the wedding without a problem.
I get home and there are no pictures after the one right before shutting off the camera. I wish I would have changed cards then, but it continued shooting so I thought all was well.
Now I'm absolutely sick over it. I got home, popped the card in the computer and there are 1644 files (jpg+raw) but none after the error on the camera. I'm missing about 500.
I've run data recover software. 2 different programs and it has not recovered any that I couldn't see already.
The card says that 52gb is used when I pull it up on the computer. The existing files that I can see are 29.7GB so I pray that these photos are there.
I have the camera set to only shoot if memory card is inserted.
    Any suggestions??

Sounds like the memory card is bad.

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you faced while shooting the wedding. It's always devastating to lose important images, especially on such a special occasion. Here are a few suggestions that may help:
    1. Don't use the card: First and foremost, stop using the memory card immediately. If you continue using it, it may overwrite the lost files, making them unrecoverable.

    2. Use a different recovery software: Try using a different data recovery software to see if it can recover the lost files. Some recommended software is Recuva and Stellar Photo Recovery Premium which has the ability to recover and repair photos & videos.

    3. Check the card on a different device: Try inserting the memory card into a different camera or a card reader to see if it shows any errors. This will help you to determine if the issue is with the camera or the card.

    4. Seek professional help: If the above methods do not work, consider taking the card to a professional data recovery service. They have specialized equipment and expertise that may be able to recover lost files.

    5. Backup your files: Going forward, make sure to back up your images frequently during the shoot. You can use a second memory card, an external hard drive, or a cloud-based service to store your images.
I hope these suggestions help you to recover your lost images. Good luck!

Think of this as a learning exercise, use good quality SD cards but limited to a heap of 32GB cards. That way if you have a bad one the loss of images is reduced.
Like any mass produce item faults occur. Make sure you format the cards before using.
