Hi, I bought my husband a EOS2000D DSLR last year and I’m looking for advice on accessories, particularly lens hoods. At least, I think that’s what I’m looking for. He mentioned that he needs a cap which helps to reduce glare, and he said they’re different for each lens. My research brought me to lens hoods. The lenses he has are EF75-300mm, EFS 18-55mm, EF 50mm (this last one is a slight guess as I couldn’t find the actual lens in his bag, but on checking the receipt of the original camera purchase, it said it came with with 18-55mm and a 50mm).

I’ve been looking for lens hoods and found these:
    Canon ET-60 for the 75-300mm
    Canon EW-63C for the 18-55mm
    Canon ES-68 for the 50mm

Are these the correct ones? I could just ask him but am trying to buy for Christmas gifts.

He’s also wanting a case for just the camera (not lenses or accessories) that is only the size of the camera and no bigger (so he can pop it into another bag if he doesn’t want to take his full camera bag out). Any suggestions?

    Thanks from a confused wife!

Which 50mm does he have? ... there are multiple versions of these lenses and with the 50mm it will matter. Otherwise i think the other two are safe.

The bag is a weird ask, I get not needing a large bag if you just wanna grab the camera and go... but i always have a lens attached I would not take the lens off between the use, in fact i minimize swapping lenses if i can and quickly swap lens down camera off to minimize dust getting on the sensor.

All this said there are a handful of small shoulder and sling style bags that will hold just a camera with lens on and maybe a a second lens or an flash type accessory... That's about as small as you can go.

double check he doesn't mean an ND filter for the glare or a polarizer
the lens hood is for sure going to be a good thing to get so yes to that, they are for keeping stray light off the front of the lens if he is shooting towards or across the sun

an ND filter, neutral density filter is like a pair of sunglasses, it reduces the power of the light for times when you either want to do a long exposure and the sunlight would be getting too bright or if the sun is just too bright anyway

polarizer, this takes the glare off of water and some other bright surfaces, it can help to see the details below the water, deepen the blues in the sky or make wet leaves less reflective, also can reduce the glare on peoples glasses, car windscreens or tv screens

just incase he's after something like that

as for the case for just the camera, its not a usual one but i guess it depends what else he may have in a bag,
couple of options there, a specific case made for the camera he has, probably quite a few on ebay etc of see what offical ones there are
an option i have gone with for a second body a few times was one of the soft lens cases which fit the camera, you'll need to measure up the body for that
failing that measure up and find something suitable
think tank duo are my soft cases of choice but i hear they are stopping those so might be hard to find in all sizes, JJC make some nice cases too

see if there is a specific facebook group for the camera he has, most likely there is, there will be a lot of users there who have gone through the same things

thank you for the reply, after further snooping I found the 50mm lens. All it says on it other than 50mm is 0.35/1.1ft (as pictured)

Thank you for explaining everything, that helps loads. I think it will be the lens hood. He is an amateur at this photography business so suspect that he might not know about the other types you mentioned. The need was probably borne from a recent holiday where he was trying to take pictures of a sunset.

I’ll take a look at the bags you mentioned also. Thank you for your help.

Looks like the STM version from what I can tell, the front of lens is where the MM, the F stop and any other designations like STM or L etc, would be.
If its the the STM 1.8 yeah that hood above would be right.
