Back before the 70s our sewerage was collected in tins from a outhouse, all the beaches were clean and the fishing was excellent, the Tasmanian government though it was a good idea for us to to have a flushing sewerage system and since then it all ends up in the local river. This was a lovely beach with regular family days with adults and children paddling and playing on the sand, now this.

 

Goodness me this is awful, is there no treatment plant to treat the sewage before it's pumped into the river Craig?

 

They have a treatment plant but we live in a hilly state and with all the new houses and no new infastructure, there are are regular times when demand out strips capacity and the overflow go strait out into the Derwent river. After decades of such incidents there is a build up of pollution.

ohm, we used to have great railway system here in Tasmania till some-one in political power decided buses were the way to go, a concerted effort is underway to re-establish the railway but once again some short sighted politicans in power are the stumbling block.

In the area of Spain where I live, Catalonia is a triangle in which one side is the Mediterranean Sea, parallel to the sea there are some mountains called the Catalan Coastal Range. Normally at the end of summer, some intense downpour occurs, which in some places has catastrophic effects.
Earlier this month there was a day of heavy rain in Torredembarra, and it overflowed the sewage system, the result is that a river has remained on the beach. Which I photographed on two different days, the first on the 7th, and the second on the 26th, where the effects are still noticeable.

I like the shot showing drainage straight out to the sea. Once out to sea it’s out of sight and out of mind, which in its own way is wrong. Luckily, today’s computers don’t offer the stink feature, yet. PHEW

Invasives species must be controlled for the sake of wildlife and those that lived there first. Control then tolerated, that’s a starting point.

 

A flower of hope.



I have left my effort to the end of the month, just to see if anyone is trying to do anything hands on. I am going to come at this from a different direction. Our effort is to revegetate an area of land with native trees. So far, we have planted out approximately 150 trees. This small tree in flower is in a pot along with around another 300 trees that will be planted as these saplings get to a size where they should be able to survive once planted out. As we plant out these pioneer trees, we replace them with younger and smaller trees and repeat the process.

Before we started, all the life that we would see in this area is flies. Now, we are getting native birds, and insects. As yet, the first trees that we planted out are not big enough for anything to live in, yet. But give it time. The tallest trees are now taller than me and looking pretty happy.

Tree repopulation is an honorable thing. Wood is a renewable resource. What happen to make this such a bare field?

 

Excellent image as usual , Gary. Of all the issues mensioned, yours has a foreseeable repair to the enviroment in sight.

 

Caladina, good photography, in many parts of the planet, governments and individuals are seeking to mitigate the effects of the introduction of species of animals and plants, profitable at the time, but which have caused much damage to the flora and fauna of their respective territories.
