My Powershot SX60-HS camera works great. Wanted to improve so I bought a YONGNUO SPEEDLITE YN600EX-RT flash unit. I have read the instructions till I'm almost blind. I cannot get the flash to trigger with the camera.(I know these do not work in the wireless mode) (The flash works just fine with the test button.) Flash is set at ETTL ISO is set to flash on the camera The is a red flash icon on the camera display. What am I doing wrong??? Have to have this working by Thursday or I'm sleeping on the couch... (Big family event) HELP!!!
With some light research I did see a few things that have me concerned it will not be compatible to that camera, B&H doesn't list the camera as supported on the listing i found, they have a pretty full list of DSLR and Mirroless cameras just only a few point and shoots. It is interesting the SX50 is listed, you would think the 50 and 60 would work the same. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1311157-REG/yongnuo_yn600ex_rt_ii_speedlite_for.html/overview All this being said, I expect if you have a hot shoe and the right matching points the flash should fire without ttl when the shutter is tripped. So its interesting that its not working at all if mounted in the hotshoe. When you say it doesn't work wirelessly, do you mean as an optical slave? I understand the flash has slave functionality and that should work just fine, all it need to see if the on camera flash go of to fire while setup as a slave. You don't have a radio trigger method however on that camera. You may have had better luck with comparability picking up a older used 430EXII.
Ouch. The truth hurts. Guess I should have done a bit more research before buying it. Really appreciate the response. Guess I'll look for one that is compatible.
I messaged B&H and the tech there says it should work. It has the same firing system as the SX50. OK, so that still leaves me stumped. I have followed the instructions to a T and yet, it still does not flash. Any ideas would be super helpful please.
Where did you buy yours, maybe you have a faulty unit? There is either a comparability problem or an electrical problem on the hotshoe. Basic firing is that sophisticated, and manual flash generally should work if the flash makes basic contact in the hotshoe.
