I put my Super-Multi-Coated Takumar f4 200mm on my 1Ds today and took a couple of images of a red hibiscus. I did heavy crop of the image to match up with another image taken with my K10D with the same lens.

Very crisp images rayallen, thanks for sharing. The longest Takumar I own is a 135mm, f3.5 I paid $9.00 USD and is tack sharp. Those old Pentax screw mount lenses are phenominal.

$9.00?? Well, that's another bargain that you have scored. I have one of those also but I am sure I paid a lot more than that for it.

The lens needs an adapter to mount on Canon I presume. It is a manual focus lens, right? I have a Pentax 135 mm f3.5 also but it must be a pain to get them on a Canon body.

Yes, of course, an adapter is needed to mount a screw mount lens on a Canon. There is no other way to get a screw mount lens onto a Canon bayonet. Adapters are readily available on eBay for around $10. I recommend one with contacts on the back as that will give you focus confirmation.

The Pentax lenses are k mount for prime lenses. Do they need adapter too?

I have one which is K-A (50 mm) and others are K mount for manual lenses (28 and 135 mm)

I'm glad to see some interest in this subject. Here is my setup for Pentax screw mount lenses. Yes K mount lenses will need an adapter also.

Here it is disassembled. The front of the adapter is machined to fit the lens and the rear of the adapter is machined to fit Canon cameras, They make adapters to fit almost any combination of lens to cameras

Thanks for the information. I hope I don't have to do any surgical procedure fo resolve any mechanical interference issues (as one web posting had suggested). I had left behind the Pentax lenses with a friend of mine in US on my last visit which I am hoping to get back this summer.

Yes, the K-mount Bayonet is different to the Canon bayonet.
I have just been down that road for my K-mount lenses. I purchased an adapter from eBay which was supposed to have the contacts on the back but when it arrived it did not. When I tried to use it on my 1Ds it gave an error message which said to clean the contacts - which it did not have. When I tried it on my 20D the camera locked up and the only way to restart it was to remove the batteries.
I returned the adapter and got a full refund.
If you want a K to EOS adapter make sure you get one with contacts.
The other thing you need to know is that the adapter will only work with K-mount lenses that have an aperture ring. The newer Pentax AF lenses do not have aperture rings and rely on the camera to open up the aperture and Canon cameras do not have the lever required to do that. I hope that helps.
I have given up on the idea of a K to EOS adapter as only one of my K-mount lenses has an aperture ring. I have taken a more expensive route and ordered a Canon 75-300 f4-5.6.

Hi PP, does your screw mount adapter have contacts on the rear?

I need to check the lens manual to see if they have aperture ring. They are lenses from mid or late-80's. I was using them on my film cameras. I hate to see them not used.

No it doesn't, I bought it before contacts were available.

From that time frame and if you were using them on film cameras I would say that they will have aperture rings and are most likely manual focus (yes, you did day that!). So, you should be able to use them.

Two of them were totally manual and one had contacts (50 mm K-A type)

However, my Nikon , Leica R, and Mamiya medium format adapters are all fitted with contacts.

My 1Ds refused to work when there were no contacts. My screw mount adapter has contacts and works fine on the 1Ds and the 20D.
