As we all know, to take an image, all that you need is one camera and one lens. But lets be honest, I am sure that we all own a little more equipment than that. So what is your latest purchase to help you on your photographic adventures? Why did you buy it and has lived up to your expectations? Today I picked up a used remote switch RS-80N3 for my 7D. I hope to get out and do some long exposures over the next few months. I have done long exposures with my Pentax K3 and nisi filter set, so I am sure that this remote will live up to my expectations. Snap! An RS-80N3 remote. That was my latest purchase too,Gary. It fits both the 1Ds and the 20D. I got it for $7.25 free post on eBay. I thought I would find out how much a genuine one is from Canon. I expected that it would be a bit more expensive but I didn’t expect that it would be $119.96. I wonder how many they sell at that price. Mine does not have the word Canon on it but it seems to work OK.
My latest purchase is a Canon D30. It came with a Zenitar 16mm f2.8, Pentax K mount and a K to EOS adapter in a brown cardboard box that looks to be the original packing and software. The main reason I bought it was to see if it was able to use my film era AF Sigma lenses and it is! The Sigma 50mm macro is to get some usage at last....albeit with less than 4 mp.
My latest purchase was a Yongnuo YN14EX ring light. Not the quality of a Canon ring light but a lot cheaper. Within 2 months the battery cover broke and I had to drill 3 holes and screwed it in place, So far so good. Electronically its every bit as good and lighting-wise it lights up the subjects very well.
Hi Robert, Geez, that's even older than my 1Ds! But if it still works then I am sure you will be able to coax some good images from it. With such a low pixel count on APS-C at least it means that the pixels are much larger than today's APS-C cameras and that results in a smoother image.
$119.96, wow that is a little eye watering. I picked up a genuine used Canon one today. It has a couple of slight marks on it, otherwise it looks good. Gary
There was no way I could afford an early 1D model, much as I might have liked to. Even this cost me £65 but if I enjoy using it and the results are good then it doesn't matter.
Robert, I was very lucky to be given a 1Ds body and a 20D body by an ex-newspaper photographer. All I had to do was acquire some lenses. As I already had LBA that was not a problem. I must admit that I am enjoying using a full frame camera.
The only camera I have been given is a Zenit, minus a lens. Soon found some appropriate lenses though.
Playing with my D30 this morning and the Sigma AF 50mm macro I have found the lens is not stopping down, well maybe partially. Here is an image that was taken with a wide aperture, if I am to use a smaller aperture it will have to be with some exposure compensation but I doubt it will avail me of F11. Resized a little bit for posting.
My D30 acquisition may not work more than a bit with the Sigma 50mm Macro but is fine with the Sigma AF 4mm F2.8.
You have made a good purchase, Robert. Nothing wrong with that old camera. That first image is very sharp and has good colour tones. I see that it takes EF lenses so that gives you plenty of choices.
Fun thread topic, honestly its been a while since I bought something for photography specifically. Fall of 2017 I picked up a few collapsible backdrops which are totally worth the investment, even if they only get occasional use. Since then I have picked two drones, both made by DJI, Spark and Tello, camera on the Spark is pretty decent actually . But these are for fun as much as photo.
My latest purchase is a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM for my 1Ds. It's not a current lens but it must have been doing something right to last from 1998 to 2016. The focal length range suits my needs. I got it from Gumtree and it is in as-new condition and came in the original box along with the accessory lens hood in the original box plus a 72mm UV filter and the original Canon instruction manual. It was obviously owned by someone who cared for it. I think I got lucky.
I have one of those $7.25 remotes as-well and it has work well with no problems with only one minor complaint, I keep loosing in my camera bag other than it's been very useful.
My first camera with interchangeable lenses was a zenit, the film door used to pop open regally , was not a fun camera to have, it took me 30 years to get around to getting a new camera , canon F1000 and now I have 28 different cameras and a large variety of lenses
