Trying to set this up without an HDMI to USB converter. I have EOS Utility showing the image from the DSLR on my PC Monitor. However Zoom conferencing software doesn't give it as a video option to select. How do I link these up?
The EOS utility is strictly software to mange images from the camera-to computer. The "video" i guess you could say would be your desktop on your computer. The USB connection is data not video so you are not going to see that as a video input in any software like you describe. I am not sure why you can share your desktop on Zoom to accomplish this.
So it would need the expensive Legato convertor. I have a webcam ordered so will have to stick with that.
Actually no I am not sure you need some expensive converter because I am not sure it will do what you want. The Camera uses USB to transmit the jpg or canon raw file. There is no video being broadcast to convert, for the system to identify. I would imagine in theory you could use the HDMI port on the camera to play back video if you can receive the video as input via hdmi on the computer. Neither of these was what the camera was designed for. Are you simply trying to use this camera as a webcam? (Sorta like renting a backhoe to plant a couple of flowers in a garden) Then buying a webcam was a good idea. Or are you trying to review images taken with a group call via the web? This seems like a pick the right tool for the job situation but I do not fully follow what process you are trying to accomplish.
Is there any reason why I got it working as a webcam on Messenger but can't get it to work on Zoon conferencing?
I have EOS Utility open here and a live video feed from my Canon EOS700D. Is there a reason why it wouldn't work with Zoom conferencing.
Well we don't have a Zoom developer or a Canon tech here to provide a highly detailed answer for these issues. What I was trying to relay is that the camera is not designed to be used as a webcam, and given the cost of these cameras I would be worried about running the sensor for long periods of time in such a manor if you are a heavy user. Yes the utility does live view, this is a projection of what is sent to the back of the camera and the electronic viewfinder, the purpose of this on the computer is to do tethered photo-shoot in the studio where you can shoot and then have the images sent to the computer. It is interesting your messenger see's this as video, since the canon utility is the software/driver bridge for communicating with the camera. Major players like adobe built the communication support into Lightroom, but I do not see zoom building in support for DSLRs into their software.
