In the video mode for 4K or HD when I connect my camera to a Black Magic 4K Assist External Monitor/Recorder via the HDMI socket I start recording from my Monitor/recorder and all seems good but after approx 55 sec's of recording the camera stops recording on its own . I have tried various settings but to no avail anyone any ideas ?.
Are these SD cards that you have had for a while? How fast are they, they need to be pretty fast to keep up with the high def video writing on this camera. I could see it stopping because of not being able to keep up with the write speed or because the card has a bad sector. I would probably try a low level format instead of the quick one you do when you insert in the camera. The easiest thing to try is verifying it is not a problem with the card.
yep Transcend SDXC UHS-II 180MB/s 64GB x 2 But had it working today with an older SDI HD out put camera all was fine . Seems to be just with the 5D MkIV via HDMI so im guessing maybe it could be a setting on camera but I cant seem to work this one out. Hence the post see
If I remember correctly, the EOS 5D Mark IV is UHS I - faster UHS II cards will end up running at a slower speed for compatibility. Have you tried using the CF cards instead, or a fast UHS I SD card? That may be the issue. Also as far as I am aware the HDMI in the EOS 5D Mark IV just supports 8bit out, so don't know if this is conflicting with settings in the External recorder (Do check with Blackmagic - may be a firmware issue?)
