I was thinking that is the case...any idea how much that will cost and where j can do it or maybe do it by myself...it's easy to do it??
As an engineer myself who completed an apprenticeship and gained qualifications as an optical, mechanical and electronics engineer, I have endeavoured to take apart and repair lenses myself in the past. This needs to be done in a very clean environment to minimize the possibility of dust and dirt from entering the lens when you have it in pieces. Also you need to be able to clean every glass surface which you expose during the repair process. Any grease which you apply to the moving parts needs to be stable at a range of temperatures, the grease which lens manufacturers and repairers use is quite expensive, and they have specialist tools with which they will complete the work. Only you can decide if you are confident and capable of performing the task. These are the questions you need to ask yourself before attempting this job. 1. Can you afford the cost of a professional repair? 2. Do you feel confident in your skills to perform the task? 3. Do you have an area which you can keep clean and dust free during the repair? 4. Do you have tools which you can complete the job acceptably with? 5. Can you afford to pay an increased fee to have the lens repaired after you have taken it apart and were unable to complete the job satisfactorily? If you attempt the job yourself, be very aware that the lens is a very highly engineered piece of optical equipment and is very complex internally. With regards to recommending a repairer, I do not know where you live and thus can not suggest anyone. If you decide to have a go your self, i applaud you and wish you good luck. Cheers G.
Thank you for quick answer...just checked on YouTube and it is not so easy to do that and not damage more the lens and mechanical parts plus environment need to be clean and without dust like you said...I'm living in Southampton,UK and closest service is in London..but it is closed for now and prices are not so big but I think will be better to send back that lens and look for second one or nee one... thanks for responding and guidens Have a nice day
