Hi everyone first of all happy new year to everyone all over the world. As a newbie still I'm looking to upgrade my lens and as of present have a choice of 2 lens a Canon EF-s 10 -18mm f/4.5 -5.6 IS STM or a Canon 28 - 105 mm Af lens. Now I know the 10 - 18 would be great for landscape and night time stuff and the other a all round one . Maybe I've just answered my own questions there but any advice would be grateful appreciated many thanks john
There's a lot of lenses you can buy! Do you have a budget for each of the two lenses you would like? I myself just bought a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8. I plan to use that for my "all around lens." Haven't had much time to play with it yet, but hoping that it's a good one!
i dont want to go daft on what i buy as i would like a large lens at some point but wanted to start to build my collection up if you know what i mean

Hi John looks like you have a few kit zooms and a nifty 50. The 10-22 would be a nice addition if you like landscapes and want to go a bit wider, it has IS if you need it but you will need to turn off the IS on a tripod. Keep in mind it is a crop body lens and will not work on a full frame body down the road. The 28-105 was made from 1992-2010, no IS, its only worth about 100 used i believe, I think its a fine performer for the money and if you find yourself switching a lot between the other lenses in certain situations I could see it have some value as covers a wide range of mm from sightly wide to portrait length (maybe this was a typo and you meant 24-105, since that is closer in price to the 10-22). There is not perfect way to build out the kit for anyone, it is personal to their shooting style budget and what they need at the time. I do encourage you to think what you may be using and needing not just now, but in 10 years, a long term view will help from purchasing lenses you may want to switch out in a few years.
John as you are in the uk have you thought about second hand? mpb.com have a great range of the 10-18, i was looking to get one myself, from the lenses you already have the 10-18 covers the low end you don't yet have. (i opted for the 11-22 ef-m over the 10-18 due to body size as it is to be a companion lens at the moment)
