Howdy! I've used Canon for a long time. My first DSLR was the Canon 10D. I currently own both a 20D and a 30D bought new, back in the day. I never sold them because I loved them so much, and by the time I considered doing so, they were hardly worth selling. I have a 10D too, acquired from my daughter when I upgraded her to a 20D. I doubt there's a better $100-ish camera that can be had today! Here's a recent pic from my 20D. Got pics from one of these classics? Share?
My first DSLR was the 20d, shot with it all through college for the price I agree you can do better, and its hardly worth selling at the price point. Many of the images on my website were shot with my 20d actually.
1st Canon was the 30D , it had a ?? shutter button ... 2nd Canon was a low mileage 40D , had the sweetest shutter button on it ... Gave both to my brother ... Currently run the 60D and 70D ... Like them enough to seriously consider a 80D .. In some ways yes , other ways no .. ( The best ? ) I own and have owned a lot of Pentax .. , iSTD - iSTDs - K100D - K200D - Kx - K7 - K5 - K50 - K30 - K20 - K10 Also a few Nikon ... D7000 and D3200 Each has its positives and negatives ... If you like old glass ? Its hard to go past the Pentax platform as you can use all the old glass . Canon is probably the worst in this regard ( old glass ) And Nikon ? You can use some of the old glass ( Ai - Ais ) Variables are / Need / want / and how deep your pockets are ...
my first DSLR was a 30D, also. i must admit, i prefer the newer cameras, but the 30D got me in the game. i used a sigma zoom (can't remember which one) and the 50mm 1.8. my husband was shooting a 20D at the time, and when i changed to another camera and system (i went micro four thirds with a panasonic GF1), he took over the 30D and happily shot with it for a couple years till he decided to get a pentax.
I started with the 20D. Used it for four years, made large photobooks, and took weddings. Hard to believe that is not worth the price of shipping for a sale. I look back at it from time to time and the LCD is so small. Despite all it is still capable of making great images. I want to start a program to receive donations of well cared for out of date canon equipment and spend my retirement teaching the art in the inner city of Chicago (that is my retirement location). Please support this project as I will be starting a thread when I can figure it out. Thank you.
My first Canon was the EOS 30 film camera, had the 24-85 (nice lens), went onto the 60D with the 60, 40 (both nice lenses, especially the 60 macro, sharp as) and 70-300 (also very nice, was a bit soft at 300).
I remember when the EOS 10D and original Digital Rebel SLRs came out at a much more affordable price than the previous D30 and D60 models. I was shooting local sports and was still using the T90 and F-1 for most work unless the company rented for us an EOS 1D for tournament events. The company would digitize the film and PP in Photoshop 6. HOWEVER, after the 10D and Digital Rebel came out, that marked the end of most places accepting film work. In other words, if you still wanted work, you better go buy a 10D or Rebel and turn in your images burned on a CD-ROM.
Being a poor boy, the 20D is my main dslr. My backup dslr is an original Digital Rebel. Both still work perfectly. Both cameras plus an assortment of cheap zooms cost me less than $100.
I still use my 10D regularly and I have printed the photos at A4 and A3 with excellent results. Even though I now have a 60D and a 1d mark3 I can't bring myself to sell or give-away my 10D it been a great camera.
I was recently given a 20D body with flat batteries and no charger. I have ordered a charger tonight so in a week or so I should be able to make some images. Looking forward to seeing what it can do.
I sold my 10D along with my 70-300mm IS as I wanted the cash to buy something else. My plan was to update to a 50D. Now I can only regret it as I still have not bought a 50D (or maybe I would like the 60D more....) The combination was pretty good.
And I have now ordered a new EFS 18-55mm Version III lens. Yes, I know it is just a "kit" lens but I have great respect for kit lenses as I took most of my early images with an 18-55mm kit lens on my first Pentax DSLR.

That's what I started out with on my first Pentax DSLR and I made lots of good images with it. Looking forward to seeing what a Canon one is like.

But I currently have...the following - D30, bought used, put away in its box D60, bought used, put away 10D, bought new, put away in its box 30D, bought used, put away 40D, bought new, put away in its box 50D, bought used, put away SL1, bought new, ready for use 6D, bought new, ready for use D5 mkIV, bought new, ready for use I also have Sonys, A77 II, A6300, A99 all bought new, all ready for use And Nikons, D3200, D610, both bought new, both ready for use Geeze...I've never written out out like this...am I nuts or something..?
I wouldn't say your nuts. Maybe a bit of a gear head if your updating the bodies that frequently and playing with that many DSLRs.
Maybe Johnsey won't say, but you said it already and I agree with you! Can you take a break and shoot some images? Just kidding, I tend to do the same with the things I love and don't break my bank.
I am. My little A6300 is charged and ready for my bi-weekly trip to the east coast. Been back and forth for work for weeks now with no end in sight. The Sony goes with me every time. I at least get a shot out the window of the hotel if nothing else..! Going to a train museum next weekend, we'll see what that brings. Got pictures of my crashed rental car and the guys car that ran into it last week..! Mike
It's nice to have a variety of choices. With that many, you wouldn't have much of an excuse to not have one available when you really needed it!
