Taken with a 1Ds Mk II with a Leica 50mm Summicron R lens. The results are unbelievable. View attachment 1850 View attachment 1850
You could not expect better results than that. Very nice. Did you purchase an adapter to mount the lens on the 1Ds? I have an adapter to allow me to mount my Takumar screw-mount lenses on my 1Ds and it works fine and gives focus confirmation as it has contacts on the rear of the adapter. I also bought an adapter to mount my Pentax K-mount lenses. It showed that it had the contacts on the rear but when it arrived it did not and the 1Ds showed an error message and would not work and neither would the 20D. I returned the adapter and got a full refund. But that adapter only works with lenses that have an aperture ring and I only have one K-mount lens that does. So, I am abandoning that idea and will just use my screw mount lenses.
Yes I bought adapters for Nikon, Leica R, Pentax screw mount and Mamiya Medium format. All work just fine on all my Canon bodies. My best works so far comes from the Leica R lenses and the Schneider-Kreuznach lens. The pentax screw mount lenses can be had for a song and they produce exceptional images as well.
I have been collecting screw-mount Takumars for many years and I now have all I need. All I need now is the time to use them all!
I can only agree with you Ray, I recently purchased a M42 to FD mount for my Canon T70 film camera, the primitive light metering system seems to work fine with this setup . I haven't developed the film to see how they come out yet. My digital canons also work fine but the only draw back is a minor one, sometimes I am slightly out of focus. This shows up on close inspection of the photo but I find a easy way to fix this is put the camera in live-view and press the positive zoom button and focus
Good on you, Craig, for still using film. My film days are over. I envy your having live view on your Canon digitals. My Canon digitals pre-date that feature and it would be useful. I have two Pentax digitals and only one of them has it.
Film cameras are plentiful and cheap, you can get lens adapters for most camera\lens combos and you can still get film processed locally down in Hobart. It cost $20 to get it processed and put on a disc or you can use a postal service. Digital can not replace that tinge of excitement when you first open a pack of newly developed photos and can not wait to see how they come out. I have been setting up a dark room under my house so soon I hope to be developing film and Photos. I already have enlargers and various dark room equipment. The cost of printing a large photo and developing film is starting to become cheaper compared to a inkjet printer and above all I don't have a lady of the house to clamp down on my excessive camera gear expenditure. Life is good!
Lucky you Craig. I scan my own negs so all I have the lab do is develop only. Pro Photo Connection in Irvine California charges $5.00 US per roll. At least that was what it was the last time I went there.
$5 a roll, that's cheaper than what it cost me to process it myself but it works out cheaper for me to do a large amount of film and enlargements.
Hi everyone, I've got a question and hope you'll be able to help out. I recently bought the old canon 28-80mm lens to use on my canon m50 using the viltrox speed booster. I noticed that the focal length between 28mm and 50mm always gives an error message (Err 01) after I take a shot, but this does not happen at focal lengths above 50mm. What do you think the issue might be as this impedes my ability to use the lens with flash at events. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you
This sounds like something Johnsey may be knowledgeable in, may I suggest you direct your quirey to him.
Err01 is a communication error. So the big question is have you carefully cleaned the contacts on the lens / adapter / camera. Do you have access to a canon DSLR that you could test the lens on and make sure its happening all the time? I ask because you have a pretty on EF lens on a third party adapter so there are multiple things that could have issues with communicating. My gut says it is likely just dirt or oil on the lens contacts , but with a 20 year old lens it could have a damaged contact as well.
Thanks for your response. I have cleaned the contacts on the lens but the issue persist. I will try it on a DSLR and see if it gives the same error. It's just puzzling to me that when I zoom beyond 50mm, it works perfectly. I'll also try to get a canon adapter just in case that is where the issue is from and leave a feedback on the forum. Thank you once again.
A possibility is that the software/firmware embedded in the chip does not read anything beyond (less than) 50mm. However I know nothing about speed boosters so please take this with a grain of salt.
Thanks! I did try the lens with a crop sensor dslr and it worked fine from 28 to 80mm so I think the lens is fine after all. I’m waiting for the delivery of my canon ef-eos m adaptor as there may seem to be some compatibility issues with a third party adaptor. I’ll post my findings on here after the test
