This months photo topic is "New to You" - Any item that you have just bought, been given or found. Thanks Caladina for the suggestion in our suggestions thread. This one seems that it would work really well this time of year.

    Happy shooting!

    Again, the rules are simple:
    • Should be be using some canon gear , this is a canon forum after all.
    • Shot with the assignment in mind, go out and shoot something new don't dig up something from the archives.
    • and most importantly have fun.

Beauty, first cab off the rank, this month. This view camera is not new but new to me.
Made in 1914 to 1920 some time by the Century Camera company.
The Century Camera Company was started in 1900, where it got it's name from and was purchased sometime in and around 1915 to 1920 by Kodak.
It is a 8 x 10 inch field camera. Made of cherry wood and brass. It needs a lens board and the bellows is original, that means it's stuffed and needs a new one. Needs another rack for the back so it can be expanded and to balance the camera on a tripod.
Needs a new leather carry handle.
I have the necessary equipment and skill to make these parts but just a bit restricted for time at the moment.
Compared to my Calumet C1 8x10 inch view camera.
which is made of aluminum and weights in at 10 kg. I can lift this the Century 8x10 with one finger, Ideal for back packing .
For those who are unfamiliar with these camera, they take a double sided film holder which holds two 8x10 inch (200x250mm) film negative on either side of the film holder, a full frame digital camera in comparison is equivalent to a 35mm film negative.
I can not wait to try it out. IMG_5067.JPG

I wish I had the patience to work with something like that.... I'd love to see the results, even if it's not a Canon ;) Did Canon make large format lenses?

I do not think so, it is getting harder to get lenses for this size format.

We get very little snow down here in Tasmania, except occasionally up on Mt.Wellington. It did get down to 15 degrees C yesterday

not new to tap and die but new to the very very tiny stuff,
i decided i wanted to make a 1/8 scale model of my car from scratch..............yeah this could take a while.
i recently found out that there is actually a pretty decent one out there, its one of the magazine build it up as you get the bits deal, unfortunately its a slovakian release only and it was a few years back.
it would be nice to have the front and rear screens and 4 wheels from the kit but i was already prepared to make it all from scratch any way.

the new to me is the tap and die, i'm taking it from january 2022 so both the taps and small nuts and bolts came this jan, taps came about an hour ago.

the other new to me is a sad one with the loss of my beloved cat Thomas due to kidney failure a few days ago, i had tried a few times to make a post but it was and still is too hard to do, i will in time.

Sad to hear, A cat has it's own special character. independent, stubborn and does things in it's own time but is affectionate and will cuddle and rub up against you when you feel glum or sad. They tend to keep the mouse population down too, except for the bludger, my son has at my place. Too well fed and seeps all day.

If I may say so I'm in LOVE ... my first ever Tripod I purchased in 30 years, and I blody well waited a very long time for such great tool as it is ale to do thinks I was after for many-many years yet any other I looked at was never up to the mark! or by far to expensive

I got this one direct from the company in CH and I paid with EXTRA fast freight costs just NZ $ 207.00 were as it is everywhere advertised globally for I saw up to & over $ 380.00 and I'm not sure could also be US dollars!

Anyway, very lightweight yet because of all the possibilities ... simple Amazing, and finally some different view angles for items to be photographed away from the normal once !

Well, another item I NEEDED (like a hole in the head!) but it is actually GREAT as it has no Ball joint as so many at the moment (seem to be a craze yet I think they are not that good as they are slipping which is pi ...g me off! so here the other option of Sliding!
It is not as yet fully complete as I'm waiting for parts to attach as soon they arrive.

As on here was recommended to me I build a small Bird-feeder and now the cable goes behind the door so they cannot see me & I have the option to take the Shoot!

OK, a couple of Images I got of this today, but with a Feeder (Homemade!) until I get to town & can see what is there available! TESTING ...
