Hi, I'm not thrilled with the camera's face detection auto-focus when photographing mountain bikers. About 1/3 of my photos aren't in focus and probably only 1/3 are tack sharp. Am I doing something wrong? Please see this video for my results: https://youtu.be/CKiC-qgX8b4 Thanks, Brad
Welcome to the forum, Brad. May I suggest you direct your inquiry to Johnsey as he is switch on when it comes to issues of your type.
No experience with an R6, but your not lending to the strength of face detection in many of those shots. Face detection works when the face is well lit and a primary subject, The bikers face had dark shadows and was small in many shots. In fact your focus points indicated you did not even get a green face detect box on a bunch where the focus was not even on the biker.
Makes sense. I've seen so many people claiming how good the face detection is but they're generally taking soccer game photos and the subjects' face is much better lit. I'm always shooting in the woods, usually in the shade with heavy tree foliage (summer time) and frequently riders have not only helmets on but goggles too. I was thinking the issue was the speed of the rider but you're probably right - it's probably more due to the lack of light on the face. Don't think the R6 does well in those conditions. Thanks.
