Does anyone use a Sigma telephoto lens and if so, do we really need to purchase the dock to update firmware?

Not a sigma user myself, but you may have the option to send in to sigma as well, older sigma lens that are not supported by the dock have to go this route if there are issues with them. The dock also allows lens calibration on their zooms. The dock would be a more cost efficient method than shipping it off.
You can't wirelessly download or anything, most manufacturers make you send the lens in for firmware and calibration (with the exception of maybe Sony which allows you to attach Sony lens - to Sony camera - to your computer).

Thank you! The lens is only two years old. I haven't had any issues, but I keep getting these e-mails from Amazon offering a deal on the dock.

Thank you! I haven't had any issues with my lens. I have had it for two years now, but it didn't come with a docl and Amazon keep sending me offers on the dock, so I reached out to someone who may own one to see if it was essential that I purchase one.

I have a couple of Sigma lenses which work just fine on my RP. So at this point in time, I have not needed to do any updates.

The Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary works great on my M-6, however a glitch developed in an older Sigma 70-300. It still works fine but I have to flip a switch off and back on to get it to focus. I've never used any dock.
