Hi everyone. I have a trip planned at the end of November (Northern Western Australia) for the sole purpose of lightning photography. With my EOS RP, are there any tools I can purchase that will trigger a photo at the onset of a lightning flash please? Or, any other suggestions? Thanks & regards. Terry
General practice is to get the exposure set in manual with or without the lightening, and once you have the exposure and focus manually dialed in you can take continuous shots manually , or using an intervalometer or a lightening trigger like the miops one. Exposures will be in the seconds given how dark the scene is, and depending on the gear and the length of exposure you luck may vary. https://photographylife.com/how-to-photograph-lightning
Hi Johnsey. Thankyou for your reply & for the link on how to photograph lightning. I donated US$10 via PayPal, however it appeared to go to a Phil Nguyen - is that correct? Thanks again... Terry
When I was living in Darwin, I would just manually focus my camera, and then take a series of long exposures. Gary
I have always used BULB mode for getting great lightning shots. Tripod - Manual focus to INFINITY - 100 ISO - f:11. Aim the camera towards the lightning. Hold down the shutter and as soon as you see the flash of lightning, release the shutter - EASY! Here's what I get and it never fails.
Realy neat images Isac. We have not had a decent thunder storm here in Tassy for years. A couple of strikes and a bit of thunder and that is about it.
Thanks Craig. I don't know if not having many thunder storms is a good thing or not - good for us togs, but not for dogs
