I am having problems getting my EOS 80D to connect reliably to wifi for remote shooting; Bluetooth seems mostly to work. I see multiple issues including: intermittent failure to detect my home wireless LAN even though it can see several of my neighbours' (this is apparent when setting or recreating a "Set" under Wireless Communication Settings); appearing on the network (as detected by the router or by scanning the LAN with a network tool) but then dropping off again; not being seen by the EOS Utility for pairing. Very occasionally I get through all this and remote shooting can be done. All my other wifi-enable devices have no trouble connecting to the LAN.

The only explicit error messages I see are "Err61 - Selected SSID wireless LAN network not found" and "Err63 - Wireless LAN authentication failed" (yes, I did use the correct wireless key). I have tried all the obvious measures including turning the camera off and on, recreating the config, creating a new config, uninstalling and reinstalling the EOS Utility...

I particularly wanted to do this recently in order to mount the camera in the garage (where there is a good wireless AP with a hard-wired connection to the house) to photograph the Northern Lights while remaining in the house and in the warm. No such luck.

Camera EOS 80D (Oct 2016), firmware version 1.0.3. EOS Utility 3.

Are you connecting to the phone app to wirelss shoot based on the LAN setting input, or are you trying to tether to the laptop via the Utility as you also mentioned? These are very different processes.

When connection to the computer your home network is NOT involved, the camera operates as its OWN WIFI and you input that info from camera into the computer to make the connection. https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/9/0300022459/01/eos80d-wf-im-en.pdf Check out page 47, they have been doing the camera as the wifi spot for all their DSLRs for years :)

Definitely trying to connect over my home wifi network, using EOS Utility, not using the camera as the wifi AP. Even if a direct connection between PC and camera over wifi is possible, this would not work over the distance between house and garage. Hence I want both camera and PC working as clients on the home network. But anyway, the initial problem is to get this working on the home wireless LAN, and although this works occasionally, it mostly doesn't. Any idea what to try next?

Personally the only way i have seen it work regarding the utility/computer connectivity.... is as described in the manual where you select the camera as the access point, but I only have owned 3 of the 5d models for my personal experience I have never had it where i selected my home network. Someone else may have a different experience with their setup.
