How do I find my lost photos? I took 500 photos and all of them disappear on my sandisk card.

My Canon device stores photos on an SD card, but when I connected the card to my laptop, all the photos were gone. Even after running recovery software, nothing was found. However, I noticed a single 2GB file named "USBC&" on the SD card, which I suspect contains my lost photos.[IMG]
    My device is canon 70D

This is your card from the card reader? The files should not be in that usbc file, and I personally have no idea how to get them out of it if they are. You could download and try a recovery program to get corrupted data recovered. That file is not a proper file type/etension. And in 20 years and 4 cannon dslrs i have never seen this.

Images should be in folders inside the DCIM folder. Canon is picky about having the card formatted by the camera for it to write the files correctly. If they are not inside the normal folder and they were in fact viewable individually by the camera before connecting the card the corruption happened after the card was connected. Are you bouncing between windows and mac, the folders with the period at the beginning make it seem like you have more happening in your workflow and are bouncing between computers.

DO you have another card you can try? It is possible your card is starting to fail, if it is not retaining files written to it, best to confirm this.

The only folders you should have on your card are DCIM and MISC, nothing else. This suggests that the card was not properly formatted when first inserted into the camera or you have manually added the other folders to the card.

Recovery programs normally let you choose where to put the results from the recovery, it looks to me that you have chosen to put the recovery file back onto the SD card, hence the oddly named USBC& file. Obviously if the SD card has a problem then you certainly do not want to put the results back on the card and doing so has just corrupted the recovery process, in fact writing to the card is a pretty sure way to overwrite any file data that is on there.

I fear that your files may now be completely lost.

As suggested by Johnsey, Images should be in folders inside the DCIM folder. I would also suggest looking for any file extension after the "&" symbol, like ".jpg", ".cr3", or ".cr2" (common Canon photo formats). This could indicate the file format of the contained photos. Also, compare the 2GB size of "USBC&" to the total size of the photos you lost.
Otherwise you may need to utilize any photo recovery software like Stellar or Recoverit, which will find all the lost photos from your SD card.
