Hi guys. I have switched from Nikon to Canon and have a bit of a query. I use the following lens in my kit, 75-300mm and a 135-400mm Sigma which I use for mainly football photography. I shoot in the sports mode on the dial and with fast shutter speed. I find that the shutter speed is slow and clunky. My mate who shoots with me let me borrow his Sigma 100-600mm yesterday and the sound from the shutter speed was a lot quieter and faster. His opinion was that the lens I am using are older models and affect the shutter speed and sound. Is this possibly correct. Welcome any comments thanks

You cannot compare the sound of shutter between different makes or models of camera bodies and your choice of sports mode may be affecting the way the camera is behaving.
I would suggest you take the camera off sports mode and select TV mode so that you choose what shutter speed you use and the camera will choose the aperture, alternatively if your camera can do it select M mode with auto ISO which leaves you free to select both shutter and aperture.

Your info suggests that you are using a Canon D60 which being a 20 year old model may be more restricted in operating modes, did you mean Canon 60D ?

Yes you are in saying it’s a 60D not D60. Used to putting the D first on Nikon

The answer is no the lens is independent of the camera. The shutter is inside the camera and the only thing affecting it is the shutter speed. The aperture is in the lens and i hope you are not hearing that at all :).

Are you positive you are shooting a really fast shutter speed when it sounds slow? You have the noise of the mirror also moving out of the way so the sensor can record the image. But again that is all based on the shutter speed. You can go ahead and shoot at 1/60 1/200 and 1/2000 and see for yourself the sound it makes in each case.
