Hi. I want to remove the lens mount. I have tried using a Philips #00Screwdriver but they won’t budge. I don’t want to strip off the screws. Any suggestions on how to proceed? ThankYou
For a start, do not use Phillips head screwdrivers on Japanese cameras or you run a severe risk of messing up the screw head, you should only use JIS head screwdrivers. I would think that the screws have been fitted with some kind of thread lock adhesive which will need to be softened before trying to remove the screws. Acetone (nail polish remover) is a good one but it must be used sparingly and tested on one screw first to ensure it doesn't cause damage around the screw head. I'm sure other members will also have suggestions.
yep, JIS have a slightly but important difference in design, on larger jis screws you can get away with a modified Philips screwdriver but the small stuff its worth getting the proper ones, for sftening the thread lock i have used a lightly heated screwdriver and put it on the screw head to transfer some heat to the thread lock, not tried that on a camera, most of the camera ones have come undone experience here is knowing when to give up on an attempted turn rather than going too far and letting it slip then try something else
Hi. Thank you for your quick response. I got the idea of using a Philips#00 in a Fixit article. How do I find out what number JIS screwdriver I need. “experience here is knowing when to give up on an attempted turn rather than going too far” So true!
personally i would get a precision set but watch a few youtube vids on the jis types as there are more than one and some like phillips have better or worst rep looking on google at jis screw sizes the info is there if you want to do the measurements
