File Transfer Issues

    Greetings!
    New forum member here - joined because I’m having an issue and wanted to see if other Canon users have encountered the same. Tried searching this forum, but I’m still not sure if anyone has experienced the exact same problem. I just back from a trip and connected my 60D to my computer (2018 MacBook Pro) and I can only download one image before it hangs up and displays an error message indicating that the camera was disconnected. USB port isn’t bad because other devices work fine when connected. I suppose the cable could be bad, but that seems unlikely. Could the data port on the camera gone bad? If so, is it even repairable? I as much as I would like an excuse to get a 5D, I don’t really get out to shoot very often these days so it would be kind of hard to justify the expense. Thanks!

    Well you can effeminately test another cable, the USB cable is a very common USB connection type.
    You could also try another CF card to see if the storage media may be starting to go bad.

    My understanding is that there are people who have had some issues with the EOS utility disconnecting easily over the years, so my first thought is that the camera is probably fine. I would make sure that the camera firmware and the utility firmware is up to date.
    That all said, you could just pivot to using a card reader as it is much faster than downloading via the canon utility. I been using a reader for 18 years, just be careful CF cards use pins and the pins inside the camera and reader can bend.

    I was able to download the images with a card reader so I’m good there. I will try out a different cable next time to see if that is the issue (I don’t intend to be effeminate though). I suppose I could just use the card reader, but as you noted, the pins can bend, so I’d rather leave the card in the camera. Thanks for the input!

    I believe it could be a hardware issue. If the USB port on your camera is damaged, it might not be able to establish a stable connection with your computer. It's nice that you have used the card reader, which is always a good choice for file transfer.
