Hi, just bought a 100mm f2.8 USM macro lens (the one before the L version) and need to get a mount ring. Proving elusive. The mount ring for the L version won't fit. Just wondering if anyone knows of a ring that may fit, doesn't have to be made by Canon.

I used to have that lens, I now have the L version. That lens is so light and small I used to just mount it by the camera.
I also have this lens it is small, light and PLASTIC, I also would mount the camera on the tripod not the lens, no need for a ring on this lens, it would be awkwardly balanced if you did.
That's what I was thinking. Just thought I might, in future, experiment with extension tubes. Couldn't quite stretch the budget to the L version, how do they compare optically? Guess it's more practical with the stabilisation.
As a layperson I would rate the original (non IS) lens right up there with the L version. The image IQ is exceptional. The only reason I upgraded was for the IS. Couple that with your 6D and you have a world class set-up.
Yeah the non L is very sharp (as you hope a macro would be), If i used it heavily I would have considered the upgrade for the rugged L build. But it is a sharp prime, and will still be light to handle with extension tubes, you should not have to worry about using the camera as the mount point on a tripod. Most my use of this lens has been tripod.
Do you know anyone with a 3d printer? If this lens and your camera combination is light. I would have a go at printing my own. Gary
