I am gradually aquiring a good CANON DIGITAL set and now have a CANON EFS Zoom 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM but I want to know what is the DIFFERENCE between the Canon EF and EFS series ?

EF-S are specifically designed to be used on APS-C canon mount they are cheaper than their EF counterparts for this reason as they are generally smaller. The lens does not cover a full frame sensor and cant be mounted on a full frame camera like the EF lenses can.
The EF lenses however can mount on crop sensor cameras and work just fine.

YES In tried the EF-S lens onto my FILM EOS 1000Fn and it would NOT go on -- good job I did not FORCE it as it fouled the mirror.
