Is it normal that the Wifi setup & usage on the Canon PowerShot SX620 HS is horribly unstable and basically useless.

The camera does not seem to be able to reliably re-connect to any Wifi connection / cloud service that has been previously setup and was working.

Tired of having to repeat the whole process, get it working and then have to redo it all again due to a disconnect error or simply after restarting the camera.

Does it not save any settings?

Maybe someone has direct experience with this camera or a similar model with their issues. These are so many things to consider here but I will touch on a few thoughts. Also I am not sure what exact process you are trying to accomplish.

There are a number of wifi connections you can make, if its with computer are you using software on the computer as listed, operating system support can vary greatly.
Since the camera can make multiple types of connections it will need you to go to the menu and select the connection again. Are you saying it forgets the access point? It should remember previous access points.
If it is having issues dropping the connection I would rule out the signal as the issue, the camera will create a direct connection with NFC or wifi of another device, it could be possible the device is dropping it to reconnect to your home wifi again as a preferred connection.
I would also make sure any firmware on all involved devices is up to date, that can easily be the culprit.

Lastly with the cloud option all those steps get you to a point where you connect to the cloud though a device (phone computer) an use its internet connection) the steps at the end register the camera app back to the cloud and should remember the device you connected with. Does the app button change to to Cannon Imaging or does it stay a cloud? its possible the steps never were finalized.

Personally using multiple device hops like this to go to an online resource is overkill in my opinion. Upload to phone/computer then sort and go to web if you like, the process will probably be cleaner for you.

Upload to phone works first time.
Set up a cloud connection - select cloud, send e-mail address & code, open app on PC and send Photos to Google drive.
Disconnect and try connect to phone.
Camera access point is not available for connect (not visible on phone Wifi)
Only way to get it to work again is to reset Wifi completely and redo the connect to phone steps.

So you are switching between cloud and phone connection types? Let me first mention the wifi broadcast to phone is only done while on specific screens on the camera, secondly the WPS connection is completely different and requires additional steps.

WPS will allow you to use router and establish a connection aided by the computer. The computer WPS connection needs be set up first. if you set up a the WPS connection using router and computer, then use it to setup the cloud services on the camera? If done correctly and completed through page 101 your canon image gateway will connect to the canon photo album straight through the router as indicated on 102. There are steps for ensuring the connection is setup correctly between some of these steps.
Your phone connection is completely different, you need to go back to the WIFI menu so it broadcasts the signal for the phone to see it will give you the info to connect the phone wifi on screen. Then you also will need to start up the Camera Connect app on your phone to complete the pairing process.
Sounds like you connect to phone partially, connect to computer do part of the cloud steps copy over images while connected and use google drive for some reason, and try to reconnect to phone. I'm not hearing the WPS connection with router was completed for cloud pairing, im not hearing you have the canon app to complete phone pairing.

Do you want to send photos to the cloud service directly or do you simply want to copy them to your phone edit and upload later to the web?

The scenario provided is an example of the issue, not the way i want to do things.
    phone connection does work.
Cloud connection to Google drive does work.
The problem is despite being different methods it appears they do interfere with one another and the steps that are possible when setting up the connection initially are not reproducible unless the wifi settings are reset.

Sam, I am simply trying to help here. And the best way is walk through the steps taken, but you haven't given that level of detail despite me trying, I get that your frustrated and feel it doesn't work right, that hasn't changed since your first post but you simply venting and not working with my help. The connections are completely different and will not interfere with each other.

I think at this point you should call canon so they can walk through the steps with you and verify if it is camera malfunction or user error. I can't really help much without the exact steps taken as I asked in my first post. Plus with canon on the phone they will be able to slowly go through the steps and ensure where the issue is.
