I've heard the EX 50-150 is a great lens as well as the EX 105 Macro. I've seen good reviews on the 17-50 so maybe you got a bad copy. It does happen.
Yep, this has all the letters that Sigma put on the last of these lenses. EX, APO, DG, HSM. It's a nice size lens for it's length and pairs well...
For the same reason I have a set of 40 year old lenses for my Pentax DSLRs. Much more reasonably priced and still give excellent quality images.

The 90D with my 64 year old Pentax Auto Takumar 55mm ƒ2. Nothing special but still not too bad.
The 1D3 was a lovely camera but buying into Canon lenses was just too much for me.
