This is a Helios 85-210mm F3.8 zoom with "macro". I think it is not a Soviet lens but a Japanese make, no "made in Japan" sticker any longer but the glue oval is still on the lens. It has an A-M switch, built in hood, filter size of 58mm and a macro range up to 1:3 which is just as well because without it the min focus distance would be about 2.5 metres! Here are some images taken with it, stopped down a bit.
My cheapest M42 lens, Hanimex 100mm F:4. It was given to me as the bloke with it did not think it was worth anything. You can see why he thought so! Anyway, some images wide open and a crop at F:8.
Umm, yes, I can see why he gave it to you. It has a few battle scars but it is what is inside that counts. Some more information for you, Robert, re the Hanimex brand. I have a had a few Hanimex lenses from my early days when I could not afford Takumars. It is an Australian company that used to get other manufacturers to make lenses for them. Hanimex stands for Hannes Import Export Co. The company still exists but is now called Fujifilm Australia. And doing quite well.
