Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and would like to know your opinion on what camera to use as my second body. I own the 5D mark III and had 5D Mark II as my second body, but the 5D Mark II shutter count got in the mid 200,000 and I sold it and got the EOS RP to use as my second body. However the transition has not gone as I would have hoped. I'm haven't gotten used to the button layout of the RP and when I try to use it is very frustating. I have a friend that has offered me his 6D Mark II in trade for my EOS RP. I'm considering it just because the bodies of the 5D Mark III and the 6D Mark II are pretty similar in size, buttons and dials plus the 6D Mark II has the same sensor as the RP. The only thing I might miss is the joy stick for the AF point. Would you make this trade or not and why? One other thing I'm considering is to sell the RP and getting a used 5D Mark III. Help me out guys. Thank you.

I don't think it would hinder me from a choice if only a few features were handled a bit different, although I can see being annoyed with a whole new set of muscle memory on a new body design so I understand the frustration. Sounds like you would be happier sticking with the more similar setup of the dslr bodies.

However, I don't think you have a wrong answer here to be honest. Just so you know canon has instant rebates this month so the RP new is $1000 and the 6dII is $1200 new right now. All three seem to be going for between 600-1000 used for the body so it seems like a very reasonable deal if they are all about 800/900 used to make a lateral move between them.

While the 5d3 you have is still very relevant, as is my 5dII which is still my primary camera, they are both aged as far as the tech. If I was in your shoes and looking at those options I would probably go with the 6d II, in fact I would order the $1200 new one this month on sale and sell the rp to recoup a large portion of the cost, just because I prefer new if the cost is close enough. The 6dII is a couple processor generations newer and has higher specs and newer tech built in across the board so I think it is a no brainier over a 7 year old used 5d3. Personally I'm actually thinking of buying the 5d4 myself this month while its on sale at the $2500 price point.
