Hello, whenever I shoot a video with my Canon 6D MKII, it shuts off after a few minutes of recording. Typically this is about 3-6 minutes. I've tried two different batteries, and have used these batteries for years now with no issues. When it first turns off, it flashes the battery icon as if it is dead. I can then turn it off and back on, and it will show a full battery. Then if I try to record again, the same issue repeats. Any ideas I can try, or has anyone else experienced this issue?
That's your problem, rechargeable batteries do not last forever, their capacity to hold a charge decreases as the battery ages. If you buy yourself some new batteries then you should see a vast improvement.
@Ray-UK has hit the nail on the head. I have two very old Canon batteries for my 5D MkII which are fine for normal shooting but at a much reduced capacity, however, if I try to use them for live view tethered shooting they give upo the ghost after a few seconds - they just cannot deliver the power required for this continuous demand.
I'll try replacing the batteries and hope that fixes it. I just find it unlikely that they both went at the same time and still show full charge after I turn the camera off and on again. Fingers crossed the battery is the issue. Thanks!
Problem is nowdays its hard to get new Its probably a good thing to confirm a new battery can reproduce the issue. Seems to me the camera is overheating and shutting down, it could be a short somewhere i guess, in any event you probably are looking at a canon service call to get a main board replaced or something along those lines if she is overheating that easily. Did this just start doing this when shooting video?
What happens if you just take stills and not video? How many shots do you get out of a battery before it dies? Gary
