    Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 7d mk2 that shows some weird behaviours and I have not been able to make it work properly.
When switched on the screen remains off but I'm able to take picture althought there's nothing shown on display. The autofocus is constantly working (af in servo mode) and none of the buttons are responding, although the camera modes dial actually works.
Switch off the camera and the display turns on showing the "sensor cleaning" animation.
It feels like the output is on the hdmi but if press the display function to switch between displays doesn't do anything.
    Any idea?

    Thanks,
    Ed

What happens when you do a factory reset of the camera?

    Hi Gary,

Being the screen off, I have not been able to do a factory reset. Is there a different way from doing it on the camera menu?

    Hi,

It does not appear to do anything.
It turns on and the small display says "card" but it doesn't appear to do the factory reset.
I've tried with a lens on or off.
I think on the 7d mkI you can remove the small internal battery but not on the mkII unfortunately.
There is also a weird exclamation mark on the display.

The exclamation mark does not indicate a fault, it is there to notify you that you have a non-standard function set. There are a variety of reasons that will cause display of the exclamation mark, these are all explained in the full manual (not the little book that comes with the camera but the manual that you download from the Canon site).

I have seen the following information but have not had the need to try it:

To discharge the internal battery, turn camera off, remove battery and card, close battery and card doors, whilst holding shutter button down turn main switch back on, keep shutter button held down for 30 seconds. Refit battery and start camera in normal way. If it doesn't work try again but keep the shutter button pressed for 1 minute.

    Worth a try, might work.

However from your description of the strange problems that you have I would guess the camera may be faulty.
