Its a 3.5 jack right, no reason this should not be compatible. Have you updated the camera to latest firmware?? .... i suppose there could have been a bug in the first firmware out of the box. In 5 min of google searching I did see that someone also had issues with a r10, but did not see widespread problems with this mic and these bodies.
Hi John, thanks for your comments, I had already updated my R7 Firmware to the latest available Ver.1.5.0 before trying the new Microphone. Tried checking if it could be other settings causing the problem, but at a loss to get it to functions, so obviously very disappointed,I purchased from Amazon but not sure if its too late to return or in fact claiming its not functioning correctly. So I'm frustrated
You probably have a good 10 days or so to return, if you tested when it arrived you should be still ok. You'll have to look, I have been able to return to local kohls on multiple items at least a week later.
Thanks I have already arranged to return it to Amazon, I intend to re-order another Microphone, but concealed if I do and its claimed again compatible and then I have the same problem, there must be some reason why the canon one didn't work
Hi John Thanks, Yes I was of the same mind having used one several years ago, so I was thinking of no buying a Rode VideoMicro 11 ultra compact shotgun for camera, but so far I haven't been able to find out if its a compatible mike for my camera the R7
Hi John, Just to close this thread, and for any others that ever have the same problem in the future and read this thread.. I decided to try a friends Rhode Mic and I had the same problem with my camera, so I made one last attempt by re-setting my Camera back to the original default settings, but still with the same result. I now wonder if I have damaged the cameras sound card (if there is such a thing in a camera.) When I first used the new Mic and plugged it in with the camera switched on. When packing the mic to return to Amazon I read the info that came in the Microphone box, it states first time plug in the mic before switching the camera on, so maybe that caused all of the problems. If so what ever Mic I buy will have the same problems.
Your mic definatelty would not kill the audio port. In fact the idea of connecting powered down is to avoid a possibility of damaging the mic. Likely the port was dead from day 1. You can contact canon and see if they will cover the repair under warranty.
Thanks John it's good to know its not of my making, I think I will manage without sending to Canon otherwise I may be without my camera for many weeks.
