    What is the small slot to the left of the SD card in the battery compartment?

    A little Canon stuff
    Without actually owning this camera, I am going to take a stab in the dark and suggest the it is the switch to let the camera know that the battery/SD flap is open or closed.

    Thanks for your reply. I think you got it. There is a piece on the battery door that would fit right in that slot.
