Does anyone know why the territorial differences in stop motion firmware exist?

Canon UK only list a handful of models as being eligible to receive the paid upgrade to the firmware for the enhanced stop motion features in the firmware.

The Canon USA website lists a few more models including the EOS R100.

I cannot understand for the life of me why this would be different in two different territories. I had to point it out to the bigger player in Stop Motion software - DragonFrame - who list the camera as being carte blanche able to be upgraded.

It's infuriating and I'll likely need to return the camera I've just bought :-S

    Hi,
    Just came across your post,
I have a similar concern, I was going to buy an EOS R100 but only if the Stop Motion Firmware was available.
    The Canon website is unclear.
So I contacted Canon Customer Support over this issue on 16/08/23, the person I spoke to over the phone was also unsure and said he would look into it and get back to me.

    This was their reply…

Thank you for your request and for contacting Canon
I have looked into this for you.
The cost for a EOS R100 stop motion upgrade is £83.10 incl VAT
To book in your EOS R100, please click on the below link and select arrange a repair.
