I just bought a used EOS t7i that came with 3 lenses. The 50mm lens has a hood, and I found a 'tulip' style hood for the 18-55mm lens from canon, but when I look for the 75-300mm lens the only one I can find is the ET-60 on the canon site, which is the conical hood. I've seen another one online called the ET-60 II that is the tulip type, but can't seem to find one on the canon site, or anyone selling one made by canon. Edit: In case it matters, my lens is specifically the "EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III" I've read that for a zoom lens, it's best to use the tulip style lens so I was curious if I'm just not finding the correct part number for one on canon's site, or if the conical one is fine? Or, if anyone can recommend one for this lens?
Welcome to the forum mrkmpn, all a lens hood does is shade the front element from glare. the 18 - 55mm lens hood should be fine if the filter thread sizes are the same or the lens hood is larger, use a reducing ring to fit it to the lens. There are some rubber after- market lens hoods available and these wil do fine. The tulip style is designed for wide angle lenses where the sides of the lens hood does not interfere withe the view angle of the lens. If desperate to protect the lens and have no lens hood place the hand above the front of the lens as a shade.
