I have been given this EOS 750D to assess for a friend. The history is vague! It came with three Canon lenses and a Mieke MK 760D battery grip. There are half a dozen LP-E17 batteries, non-OEM and a dual charger. I can’t make it work with any of the lenses, with or without the battery grip. The viewfinder is dead and the screen is dead. None of the LED’s work and the shutter doesn’t work. I have 700D so I am familiar with the EOS system. I am wondering if re-flashing the firmware would bring this back to life. I am familiar with re-flashing IT equipment but never done a camera. What would be useful to know is the voltages that should be present on the LP-E17. I could at least determine if the batteries are okay. Any help appreciated!
No, reflashing the firmware will not help and could cause more problems, it is unlikely that you could reflash it anyway if it is dead. You either have a board/ wiring fault or one of the interlock switches on the battery or card compartment are not working, both flaps must be closed for the camera to function (I am not familiar with the 750D, some cameras have separate battery and memory card compartments and some have a combined compartment so it is either 1 or 2 flaps). Make sure you do not have the battery grip attached while you are trying to get the camera running again as these are well known to cause problems and if you remove the battery grip be sure to refit the camera's battery flap, on a lot of grips the original camera battery grip is stored in a recess on the grip.
