After my Father-in-law passed away we rescued a few potted plants, one pot had a Buddleia in it so I thought it might attract some butterflies. Hidden in the foliage was an old, gnarled Rose stem, this came to life this year. Taken with Helios -44M, too much contrast in the sun to fully appreciate the colours but I will get round to trying HDR and stacking one day.
It;s nice to try new things , it is what make photography so interesting but it would have to be something special as you nailed this shot beautifully
Thank you Craig, I hope to get better at taking images but when the subject is attractive it helps a lot.
You have done a great job recording that special rose. And the bokeh from that Helios is very nice. You should be happy with that.
I don't know much about Helios lenses but looks to be top notch according to your work. It might be worth looking into.
I am a happy snapper and have used the Helios 58mm at a wedding and a funeral, wide open it is not sharp at all but gets the swirley bokeh but stop it down and it can be sharp. This is from a tatty old 44-2. I have 3 different models but like them all.
I think you will find it is not just the helios 58mm but I find a lot of my old film lenses do the same.
Many years ago I had a Fujica with a 50mm F1.4 lens, no swhirley bokeh with this but adding a 2x teleconverter made a bit. Unfortunately the images were not good with it. The only other lens I have with swirley bokeh is a Super-Reflecta 50 mm F:1.4, a sample above.
