I have a Canon G9X. Having lost the import cable that came with the camera, I have been importing via a card reader bought from Comet PC World. This has worked perfectly for the last two years using a laptop with Windows7. However, when recently I came to import 42 unimported images, a message was displayed telling me that there were 350 images to import. I did not carry on with importing out of concern that the 300 or so images would be duplicated. Anyone know how to fix this?

Let's see...I would import all of them. If there are any dupes then I can delete them in your PC or laptop or whatever you are using. Then I would format the card in-camera and start with a fresh new clean card. Good luck.

when i down load it has the option to skip the files with same name or number and only imports the ones not already in the destination folder

Thank you for that. Please excuse my lack of knowledge but what does `format the card in camera` mean?

Erase All on your camera, the DSLR has a format option which will clean up folder structure as if the card is new. On the P&S cameras is a bit less formal of a process.

I would imagine that this is due to the import process you are using does not see the pre-existing files to match them with what is on the card so it is treating them as they do not exist. This could be as simple as a destination folder. I have always copied over folder to folder then made a backup on another drive and formatted my card in camera. (erased all). So the situation described would never happen if I don't leave duplicates on camera.
