I want to avoid buying one by directly uploading videos from my Canon M50 camera onto my desktop via a USB cable. I was not given a disk to come with the Canon M50 since I bought it secondhand. Do I need to buy said disk in order to have the proper software to interact with the videos?

When I try connecting my camera to my computer, it either doesn't show up (It's a 10 to 30 minute video) or it shows up as 0 megabytes and is unwatchable in the format that it is in. What can I do to avoid spending money on a useless gadget?

Seems like your auto-correct has messed up with what you wanted to say or describe your situation. As far as I can understand, is it that you’re looking for a wireless way of transferring your video files directly from your camera to your PC?

As you are using a Canon EOS M50, this was the first EOS camera to have the ability to transfer the files directly to your PC from your camera.

You can refer here for the complete tutorial for DIY.

First EOS with WIFI? Nope, the M2 was the first apc mirror-less with wifi. Starting back in 2014 a few years before the m50 they started rolling it out across the whole EOS line of cameras, examples would be the Rebels T6 line or the 70D.
