Not bad for a kit lens is it! A true macro would be better though obviously.

Thank you very much. Appreciate your comments. I do like kit lenses and feel that many photographers have a tendency to look down upon them. They are very versatile and fun to use.

Kit lenses are not to be looked down on. I'm sure many happy photographers still own and use them. I do. The 18mm end of the kit lens is likely to be the widest many people ever own so very versatile. I just wish they were sharper! But that is my gripe and not indicative of others.
This image was taken with an old Tamron 60-300mm at the "macro" end. I wish my Pentax 18-55mm and Canon 28-80, 35-70mm lenses were this sharp.

I see your point and it is well taken. I really like my Pentax-DA 18~55mm AL Lens. I have spoken to many in the know and they are of the school that sharpness is not the be all and end all of a great photograph. For myself I do not spend any heavy dollars on lenses simply because there are many sophisticated Post Photo Editing Software Programs available and at no charge.

I see in your inventory you have a Pentax K100D Super. How do you like it and do you get to use it very much?

Thanks again for your input. Most appreciated.

I love my K100D Super, my first DSLR and likely to only be disposed of when I croak it. Having other cameras means it does not get to see the light of day much unfortunately and being only 6mp it does not lend itself to much cropping of images.
I use Picasa to store my images, crop and sometimes process but must admit that sharpening is not something I do much, the results sometimes seem "not quite right" to me and I generally revert back to the original image. Certainly sharpening a poor image does not work for me and a nice sharp image (to my mind) will not get any sharpening done to make it sharper.
I try not to spend much on lenses but temptation is always there.

A very nice job on that photo. The third party lenses certainly have been receiving more and more attention from me. Their sharpness and color rendition is really awesome so the quality shows through. Proof is in the pudding as they say. Tony
