This small piece of rock (about 1.25" long) is a momento I took from a colliery spoil heap - the black inclusions are coal. I was moved to take it because I had just been bounced out of the basket of a hot air balloon during a very positive landing with the rip line tangled round my foot and I had been dragged face down across the heap for about 50 yards before the balloon finally came to rest. Not a day to forget! Momento by John Liddle, on Flickr
